>> iMOVE-Trade Mission to Cairo, including Trade Fair Exhibition
From October 1st to 7th, 2005, iMOVE organized a trade mission to Cairo. As a result of the Mubarak-Kohl-Initiative, which was started in 1991 at the highest political level in order to promote vocational education in Egypt and, as a result of the opening of the German University of Cairo by former Chancellor Schröder and President Mubarak in 2003, significant milestones have been reached in the export of German educational services.
With this in mind, the visit of the trade mission was geared toward decision-makers in the field of initial vocational education and continuing training. Focus was placed on business, trade and technology – more specifically - the textile industry, construction, electronics, mechatronics, automation technology, tourism, hospitality and public health.
Within the framework of the first German-Egyptian Technology Symposium (GETS), iMOVE arranged for a joint booth “Training – Made in Germany“, where German companies specialising in education presented their services.
The iMOVE-delegation also attended meetings at the following:
- EU-Commission in Egypt
- Industrial Modernization Centre (IMC)
- Federation of Egyptian Industries
- Ministry of Foreign Trade and Industry
The GETS was organised by the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce Cairo (AHK Cairo). The iMOVE-Delegation was accompanied by Dr. Alaa Ezz, a member of the AHK Cairo management team.
>> Outcome
The participation of iMOVE at the German-Egyptian Symposium was very successful: All nine of the participating companies specialising in education/training indicated that they were very satisfied with the quality of the new Egyptian contacts they had established. Most of the members of the delegation were able to realize their objectives, namely, to get in touch with Egyptian marketing partners or to enter into cooperation agreements with Egyptian institutions.
Many of the approximately 2000 visitors to the Symposium from business, politics, government and private institutions, visited the “Training – Made in Germany“ booth, specifically to gather information on the German vocational education system and on continuing education/training opportunities in Germany as well as outside of Germany.
During the visits of the iMOVE-Trade Mission to high-level representatives of Egyptian industry and government, as well as to the EU Commission, the German education/training providers gained valuable and exclusive insight into the current problems and initial solutions in the area of vocational education and continuing training in Egypt.
