>> iMOVE delegation visit to Russia
iMOVE held its first delegation visit to Russia for German providers of initial and continuing vocational education and training (VET) from 26 June to 2 July 2005. The destinations were Moscow and Petersburg. The aims of the visit were:
- to highlight the background and potential of the Russian initial and continuing VET market and to prepare the ground for promising cooperation projects,
- to present the potential of German providers of continuing vocational education and training to Russian decision-makers and a specialist Russian audience and
- to establish contact with Russian state institutions and organisations from politics and trade and industry.
To this end, cooperation exchange events, evening receptions and visits to administrative bodies, training institutions and companies with responsibility for continuing vocational education and training were held. The German providers presented continuing VET in areas such as construction, energy, welding, textiles and fashion, tourism, electrical engineering, electronics, metalworking, motor mechanics, health and social work and coaching.
The visit took place in conjunction with The German Management Academy of Lower Saxony (DMAN), which has been holding further training courses for Russian managers for some years, as well as providing support to Germany companies in their foreign trade activities.
>> Appraisal of the delegation visit
The participating companies were very satisfied with the results of the visit, expectations being significantly exceeded in some respects. The delegation participants held discussions with over 80 partner organisations, state and private training providers, companies, chambers and associations. Concrete agreements were concluded with regard to ongoing work with the new Russian partners.
At the same time, the participants correctly realised that this initial contact formed only a basis for the real work to begin.
The Russian hosts and partners expressed their recognition of the high level of the German provision. The administrative bodies, companies and institutions visited were well prepared for the discussions.
The visit showed that the need for modern and professional continuing vocational education and training remains high. Sectors requiring continuing VET include:
Engineering - transport - telecommunication – local authority services – housing market – health service
