>> iMOVE-Trade Mission to Saudi Arabia - April 2007
2007 marks the first time that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has been a country of focus for international iMOVE activities. From the 27th of April to the 2nd of May, under the umbrella brand "Training - Made in Germany", 15 German organizations involved in vocational training, were invited to Riyadh and Djidda.
Numerous discussions with companies and organizations from Saudi Arabia provided opportunities for German companies to present their services. Saudi newspapers reported on the delegation’s visit in detail.
It was a strategic goal of the Trade Mission to provide the participating companies with a comprehensive overview of current issues and demands in the vocational arena in Saudi Arabia.
The purpose of these discussions with, and visits to, Saudi vocational institutes and cooperation exchanges with companies in private business in Riyadh and Djidda was for German vocational service providers to ascertain the chances of exporting their vocational training.
The local iMOVE-Partner was the Delegation Office of German Business [Delegiertenbüro der deutschen Wirtschaft (GESALO)] in cooperation with diplomatic German offices, the German Association for Technical Cooperation, [Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ)], as well as government institutions and trade associations in Saudi Arabia.
The demand for vocational training and continuing education in Saudi Arabia is enormous. Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a top priority politically. With an annual population growth of about 3.5 percent, the necessity to invest in training and education and to continuously upgrade the vocational qualifications of the domestic population in modern professions is increasing on the part of the government and the business/economic sector.
The government is investing massive amounts of money in developing and expanding vocational training. A total of 9 percent of the Saudi gross domestic product flows into the education sector.
Without a doubt, Saudi Arabia provides tremendous cooperation potential for German vocational training providers, as the wish to cooperate with foreign vocational training providers has been made very clear. The interest to work together with Germany is very strong.
In Saudi Arabia, the initiative on the part of German vocational training providers is in high demand. The time is right to take advantage of the opportunities provided by this promising market.
