>> iMOVE-Trade Mission to the United Arab Emirates and Oman
In 2005, international iMOVE activities expanded to include the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Sultanate of Oman. The Trade Mission took place from the 9th to the 15th of December 2005.The first stop was the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, which is also the name of the Capital. The delegation was invited to the Emirate of Dubai for a day as well. The delegation spent two more days in Muscat, the Capital of Oman, where iMOVE has since established excellent and lasting contacts with relevant ministries.
>> Objective
The objective of the trip was to acquaint all of the participating companies with the existing state of vocational education and training in both of these countries, as well as to become familiar with respective possibilities for development, so that these could be assessed during discussions with potential partners in the United Arab Emirates and in Oman.
This year’s Trade Mission was the result of a preliminary trip undertaken in September by iMOVE, and of extensive research conducted by decisive local partners.
>> Outcome
iMOVE deemed the 2005 trip to be very successful. All of the training providers involved were very positive; they assessed the new contacts and experiences to be very promising and helpful for the pursuit of other activities in these countries. The opportunities and risks of German involvement to varying degrees could be discussed and evaluated in detail during the trip.During all of the discussions, the importance of the iMOVE issues or subject matter, as well as the urgency with which these must be implemented in both countries, was emphasized by the representatives from the Emirates and Oman, as well as by representatives from local German companies.
The German Industry and Commerce delegation offices for the United Arab Emirates, the Sultanate of Oman and Qatar, as well as the diplomatic representatives of Germany and the GTZ (Society for Technical Cooperation) in Oman, were the decisive local partners. They meticulously organized meetings analogous with the service spectrum and interests of the German training providers.
