>> iMOVE-Trade Mission to Turkey – June 2007
June 3-8, 2007 marks the first time that the Republic of Turkey was a focus of iMOVE activities abroad. In numerous discussions with businesses, ministries and associations in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir, 10 German companies were able to present their services under the umbrella brand "Training - Made in Germany".
The delegation was accompanied by a representative from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Turkish newspapers reported extensively on the delegation from Germany.
Through roundtable discussions, visits to training institutes and cooperation exchanges with companies from the private sector, the goal was for German vocational training providers to gain a comprehensive overview of current training issues and demands in Turkey, and to ascertain the possibilities of a German-Turkish cooperation in vocational training.
The local iMOVE-Partners were the German-Turkish Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Istanbul, in cooperation with German diplomatic offices, as well as government institutions and business associations in Turkey.
Turkey is looking for a vocational training system that will appeal to young people leaving school and is geared toward economic demand.
Key words such as “employability", youth unemployment, the dissolution of regional differences, the competitiveness of a flourishing economy and vocational training as an alternative to university education, are key concepts of internal and politico-economic discussions.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) is a top priority on the political agenda. The year 2007 was declared the year of vocational training and education. Investments in training and technology will secure long-term economic growth for Turkey.
Turkey offers tremendous potential for cooperation with German vocational training providers.
The interest in cooperation with Germany on the part of Turkey is extremely high. This was evident in all three cities that were visited.
